Smart cities are emerging as a promising model for addressing the increasing complexity of contemporary urban life, as citizens’ expectations for faster, more efficient, inclusive, and accessible services continue to grow. In this context, the integration of Artificial Intelligence and emerging digital technologies into smart city ecosystems is transforming the design, management, and optimization of intelligent services, digital infrastructures, and data-driven systems. These technologies offer new opportunities to enhance decision-making, improve service quality, support innovation, and respond to complex societal and urban challenges. This evolution highlights the need for advanced AI-based and technology-driven solutions capable of fostering more efficient, adaptive, inclusive, and intelligent environments.
This Special Issue aims to highlight recent scientific and technological advances related to smart cities, smart services, and intelligent environments. It welcomes high-quality original research papers and review articles addressing theoretical, methodological, and applied contributions in areas such as machine learning, data analytics, agentic systems, natural language processing, computer vision, multimodal AI, cybersecurity, blockchain, smart education, smart healthcare, smart mobility, smart agriculture and complex systems.
